Opportunity Area #20 – Increase Housing Availability that Supports Equity and Upward Mobility
As housing costs have increased in recent years, efforts to address and improve housing issues in the region have been led by many organizations across the region. The Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Greater Cincinnati recently developed strategies for Cincinnati and Hamilton County in their Housing our Future report. This 10-year strategy focuses on preserving and producing affordable housing; protecting vulnerable households; improving systems in collaboration with Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME).

Policy Recommendations
20.A Local communities should support and encourage more housing options near job centers that are affordable to their community’s workforce and local talent.
20.B Local communities should support and encourage increased homeownership.
20.D Communities should evaluate their zoning codes to eliminate any exclusionary zoning practices and reduce barriers to new construction.
20.E Local communities should prepare housing strategies in consultation with organizations with missions of fair housing, such as Housing Opportunities Made Equal, to ensure housing availability is free from discrimination.
20.F Local communities should support and encourage increased housing near essential services and community amenities.
