Opportunity Area #19: Investing in Community & Neighborhood Quality
Strategic Regional Issue #19 – Investing in Community & Neighborhood Quality
The region receives roughly $25 million in annual HUD funding through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME programs. To receive funding, jurisdictions must be covered by a Consolidated (Housing) Plan that examines community development and housing needs. The Federal funds must be used to eliminate slums/blight or to benefit low or moderate- income residents
Policy Recommendations
19.A Local comprehensive plans should encourage public and private actions that improve the physical and environmental conditions of all neighborhoods.
19.B Local governments, law enforcement and school districts should work together with residents to identify and resolve crime and safety issues that affect surrounding neighborhoods in ways that are equitable.
