Strategic Regional Policy Plan for the OKI region
The How Do We Grow From Here? – Strategic Regional Policy Plan contains a vision for regional vitality, sustainability, and competitiveness, focusing on the land use–transportation connection in the 8-county OKI region- Hamilton, Clermont, Butler and Warren Counties in Ohio, Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties in Kentucky and Dearborn County in Indiana.
Conceptually, the strategic planning process addresses four questions:
- Where are we as a region?
- Where are we going given current trends?
- Where do we want to go?
- How do we get there?
Six strategic subject areas guide and focus planning efforts to achieve the overall regional vision. These opportunity subject areas are housing, transportation, land use, public facilities and services, natural systems, and economic development.
Please visit the opportunity area pages you would like to learn more about by clicking on the icons below.

Transportation
Provide an effective, safe, multimodal, and financially sustainable transportation system for the region equitably meeting user needs.

Public Facilities
Establish the OKI region as a national leader in public facilities and services – such as water, energy, and internet utilities – by managing our resources and systems.

Natural Systems
Protect, conserve and improve the biodiversity and sustainability of the region’s natural systems.

Housing
Offer an adequate quantity and diverse mix of housing choices – in terms of size, price, type, transit accessibility and location – within communities throughout the region.

Economic Development
Improve cooperation and coordination on economic development efforts and opportunities equitably throughout the region

Land Use
A pattern of land use that makes efficient use of land, preserves important natural features, works well in conjunction with the region’s transportation system
2023 Questionnaire Results
In early 2023, OKI designed and distributed a public questionnaire to gain insight from the community as we re-evaluated our Strategic Regional Issues. OKI received nearly 2,000 responses. Thank you to our many partner organizations and communities who helped us with this effort.
